Invitation to present studies on immigration for the Social Observatory of “la Caixa”

The Social Observatory of “la Caixa” invites researchers interested in disseminating their research work among a non-academic audience to send examples of their work (published articles, preprints or working papers) on the subject of immigration.

The Observatory will convert the research study into an accessible and shareable article. For this, it will take care of the editorial work and (when necessary) provide the researcher with an expert in writing for a lay audience, to adapt the original text to an accessible style. The article will only be published once the researcher is in agreement with the content and editing.

In addition to covering the costs of editing and publishing, the Observatory will compensate those researchers selected with €500 for their collaboration during the process of production of the informative article.

  • Our interest is focused on research studies about immigration that contain empirical data and that analyse social issues from a Spanish or international comparative perspective, either published or in the process of evaluation after 1 January 2018.

  • Our aim is to facilitate the exchange of information between social scientists who produce knowledge and those who make use of this information for their work and professional activities (such as managers of governmental authorities, Third Sector organisations, the media or the general public).

Some of the areas of most interest are:

  • Immigration and social integration

  • Immigration, salaries and employment

  • Immigration and education

  • Immigration and health

  • Immigration, attitudes and perceptions

  • Internal migratory flows or emigration

  • Proposals can be presented up to 9 October 2019 at 2 p.m.

  • The base studies should be written in Spanish, Catalan or English.

Apart from attaching the study, the email message should include:

  • The title of the work.

  • A 300-word summary, describing the most original contribution made by the research and the two or three most relevant findings in the study.

  • Name and surnames of the researcher and their email address.

  • Short CV of the researcher or research team (20 lines maximum).

Those researchers whose work is selected will be notified by email to the applicant by 12 November 2019.
